The
National Corvette Museum has purchased a Z06 Corvette
noted as VIN #1, from Chevrolet's Captured Fleet
as an auction fundraiser. This highly collectible
2001 model year Corvette is the first production
Z06 of the 5th generation. This car boasts a 385
horsepower engine with a 6-speed transmission, red
seat inserts and is showcased in torch red. The
Z06 Corvette has approximately 300 test miles on
it, and will be on display at the Museum until picked
up by the auction winner. The highest bid to date
tops in at $76,000. The exciting Z06 auction will
close at 4:00 p.m. CT on Tuesday, October 31st,
2000.
Prospective
buyers may bid in person by calling (800) 53-VETTE.
The winner will also receive a private Museum tour,
detailed introduction and auto demonstration from
trained Museum staff familiar with new Corvette
owners needs. "The Z06 auction and special
Museum introduction process will be one of the most
exciting offers made possible through the Museum,"
said Sponsorship Coordinator, Andy Roderick. "Being
a non-profit foundation, we must continue to build
revenue. Last year's auction raised $85,000 for
the Museum. We are confident that the first Z06
Corvette will be appealing to many car collectors."
The
National Corvette Museum is a non-profit foundation
dedicated to educating the public through the preservation
of the Corvette's past, present and future. Open
daily 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. CT, the Museum is located
at Exit 28 on I-65 in Bowling Green, KY. For additional
