LONE STAR CORVETTE CLUB
VISIT TO THE NATIONAL CORVETTE MUSEUM
|
Thirty-one cars and 62 Lone Star Corvette Club members enjoyed a trip coordinated by Rock Linkov and the National Corvette Museum . We spent two days touring the Museum and the Corvette Assembly Plant (getting a peek at the pre-production ZR-1 on the assembly line was quite a thrill). Some members took advantage of the “Museum Experience” having their Vettes detailed and delivered as if they were just out of the factory. A formal brick presentation was unveiled for several Club members. The visit to the Museum ended with a delicious catered dinner in the Skydome.
On behalf of the Lone Star Corvette Club, Curtis Troster (Recreational Events Coord-inator), Johnny Downs (NCM Liaison), and Judy Garrett (President) presented an $11,000 check to the Museum . These funds were part of the proceeds from the Corvette raffle held in May 2008 at the Lone Star Corvette Classic. During a tour of the Museum's new expansion wing, LSCC members signed a construction beam—the Lone Star Corvette Club will forever be a part of the NCM!
On the third day, our Vettes were ready to hit the road, and with Rock Linkov as our guide what could be more thrilling than driving The Tail of the Dragon, Deals Gap, TN--318 curves in 11 miles ! As some people say, “if you look in the mirror you'll see yourself coming through the turns!”
The Topoco Lodge was not originally scheduled in the trip but this stop was a great place to get souvenirs and relax. After spending the night in Cherokee, NC, we left the next day with one goal in mind--ARRIVE IN BOWLING GREEN FOR DINNER. Along the way we had ice cream in Maggie Valley and shopped at the Mast General Store. Early the next day we were off to tour the Biltmore Estate, a wonderful lunch, and an amazing photo shoot in front of the mansion. At the luncheon, Johnny Downs presented very special awards to some of the travelers:
