2000
To the Corvette Community: On behalf
of myself and our family, I thank you all for your kind
words and rememberances of Dan. He was a truly unique
character who touch so many with his wit, enthusiasm
and mostly his charm. Dan had a way of making everyone
he met feel right at home and very familiar. He is one
of the fortunate few who were able to see their dream
come to reality - The National Corvette Museum. I'm
pleased so many of you are enjoying it! It is a living
tribute to the car and the people who made it a legend.
He left behind his legecy with the NCM for our children
- Darren, Christopher, Peter and Heather, and our grandchildren
- Patrick, Chelsea and Danielle. I thank you all for
your prayers and words of comfort. Dan is now with Zora,
Larry, Sandy along with a host of others. I'm sure they
are all sharing their memories and having a great time!
Thank you all. Karen

We first met Dan and Karen through
the Northeast Chapter of the NCRS back in 1986. As new
members and new Corvette owners, they always made us
feel part of the group - right from the start! Of course
Dan put us on to the idea of the Museum and soon we
were founding members. He was always a huge force behind
anything to do with Corvettes, and that enthusiasm just
spread to everyone. The world of Corvette will miss
him, but his energy will carry on. Our sympathy goes
out to Karen and family at this untimely loss.

It was Sept 1994, labor day weekend,
one of the best times of my life that I had meet Dan
Gale. It was late in the morning, About 3.00 am( if
I remember right.) I was there at the grand opening
of the NCM, With me where some of my closest freinds.
We were there on A mission for our corvette club, Desert
corvette Assoc. To deliver a club jacket to be added
to the NCM archive. Mr. Gale was still there greeting
people. Although we where all very tired from the trip,we
acted like kids in a candy store. Mr. Gale asked if
we had a chance to walk thru the museum, we all laughed
and said, were going back thru again its our sixth time!
Mr. Gale laughed as big as he is in life.I guess what
Im am stating here is, that even the 15 minutes or so
we visted with Mr.Gale, the memory is still with my
wife and myself. Just being a part of the West coast
caravan to bowling green, to arrive at such a wonderful
event, is beyond words. For those who where there, you
understand what I am saying, and now to find out that
we have all lost part of that event in our lifes is
truly tragic. From my family to the Gale family, We
are all very saddened by this loss. Mr.Gales memory
will truly be part of mine. From the three vettes from

Dan: I'll miss very much seeing you
at every major Corvette event in the upcoming months
and years. You were always a true friend and supporter
of Vette Vues magazine and I will treasure your friendship
and encouragement that you offered to everyone in the
Corvette hobby. Without your talents and deep dedication
to the NCM, I do not believe the museum would have ever
opened its doors and become the centerpiece for Corvette
enthusiasts and owners from around the world, for now
and future generations. Thank you, Dan, and rest in
peace in a much better place. Please say "hello" to
Zora and Larry for all of us Vette nuts! Karen: Our
prayers are with you and your family and I do wish you
the very best in the future without your beloved Dan.

Dear Karen and family, I want to
give you my sincerest condolences. For Dan to have made
such an impression on those of us who knew him such
a short time, I know your sense of loss is tremendous.
Dan and I had many conversations on those late afternoons
just after the Museum opened. It was hard to get Dan
to go home in the afternoons--he was so proud of this
place. Dan would come over to the admissions desk and
always share a funny story about one of his adventures
(usually Corvette-related). In October 1994 my college
roommate died after being in a coma for almost a week.
Dan insisted that I be off work to be with my friend
at the hospital in Louisville. When I returned to work,
Dan came over to the desk and asked for my friends'
family's address. I was amazed when he sent them his
condolences and some much-needed money. Dan had never
met my friend, and I was just a part-time employee at
that time. This is the Dan Gale that some people may
not have known, and the reason Dan will always have
a place in my heart. Dan had a good heart, and I will
miss him. My prayers are with you and your family. Sincerely,

Dear Karen: The first time we saw
Dan was on a video taken by members of the Tri-State
Corvette Assn. of Pa containing memories with Dan From
their VVV over a 5 year period. In 1998 we made our
first VVV, anxiously awaiting our encounter with the
infamous Danny Moon Gayle. Obviously he was far better
in person than any video could ever record! As we read
all of the memorial tributes to Dan, we realized how
blessed we are to have shared at least two years of
your husband's life. As someone said in the one of the
tributes Karen, you and Dan were soul mates -- that's
exactly as we saw you -- each complimenting the other.
We send you our sincerest sympathy and prayers that
your heart will go on -- and with God's help you will
go on. Although Dan is apart from his loved ones he
will ever be in your lives. As many of your friends
have said, Tom and I belive that Dan has gone ahead
to "break ground" for a place for the rest of his fellow
Corvette enthusiasts so that when we join him he'll
lead us to a place for "Corvette Parking Only" in the
most angelic museum of all -- one that will last for
enternity where we'll ever be in the company of those
we loved hear on earth. NCM Lifetime Member Tom Nolan

Dan Gale My Friend & Mentor First
of all, may I express my deepest sympathies to the love
one's Danny has left behind. No one knows why he left
us, one could only assume he was needed somewhere else.
Danny like everybody else, had dreams,a future,a life, and
a familywho loved and admired him. The only difference
between us was, Dan was fortunate enough to see his
dream come to a reality. His persistance and devotion
to his dream, was second to none. He saw the opportunity
to achieve his goal, and seized it. This was an accomplishment
of a life time. Since I met Dan and Karen, Decades ago,
I have always tried to live up to his expectations,
to judge shows fairly, work hard for our corvette weekend,
and try my best to impress him with the Calendar. It
meant a lot to me to get a call from him after such
events, commending me for a good job well done. For
all Dan Gale has done for the Corvette family and our
solar system,(2moons), my accomplishments seem so small.
From now on , every time I receive a brochure or news
letter from the National Corvette Museum, I will think
I am getting mail from my friend Dan Gale. For he is,
and always will be, The Reason the Museum is there for
everyone to enjoy. and in my eyes is the President of
the Board, and will remain in our Hall of fame. Danny,
for those of us who knew you well, and so loved your
whit and antics, we will miss you, look for you in certain
places, remembering the fun we had with you. Unfortunately
life will not be the same without you any more. So Go
now my Friend, To Paradise, and May the angles Guide
You. May God Bless your Dear Family and Friends, and
give them the strength to carry on.Amen It has definately
been my pleasure to have called you my good friend.

I first met Dan in 1987 at the Monterey
Historic Races. I was there to shoot a Chevrolet television
commercial on racing. He approached me at the pit wall
on Friday afternoon as the Corvette SS was going around
the track. I didn’t know him, but for some reason he
knew who I was and we started talking. He struck me
as someone who really had perspective and vision. We
immediately hit it off. We stayed in touch and less
than a year later, I became the editor of Corvette Quarterly.
Shortly thereafter, Dan invited me out to speak at an
NCRS function in Lancaster, Pa. I spoke on the history
of Corvette advertising. We remained friends from that
day forward.

The first time I met Dan Gale was
in 1978 at Mountain Melee. It was at the event's "toga

type of Corvette event we attended Dan was there. When
our NCRS Chapter began Dan was there. I had the pleasure
to be Northeast Chapter Judging Chairman while Dan was
our President. When the idea of the National Corvette
Museum came about Dan was there. I can't even begin
to list the generous things he did for my family and
myself. It wasn't that we were special, it was just
the way he was. We were all proud of Dan as we watched
the NCM take shape. I can't describe my feelings the
first time I traveled down I-65 and the Museum came
into view. I can only imagine how he must have felt.

I'm going to miss you Dan, from the
Yingah name you started at Mountain Melee in 1985 to
sending me my NCRS regional deposit back when I was

Dan Gale. There is not another one
out there like him. I started to work for the National
Corvette Museum in July 1994, getting ready for the
Grand Opening. We were working out of the small Annex
-- a lot of people and a lot of action for the small
place. Dan and I were trying to get all the information
together for readerboards for the exhibits and we could
not concentrate. Dan said, "Betty I know where we can
get some work done. Grab that box and follow me." I
followed Dan out into the parking lot, he climed into
the front seat of the Suburban and I climbed into the
back seat. That's the first introduction I had to Dan's
knowledge and love of Corvettes. He had a lengthy scenario
about each exhibit, stories about Zora and Elfi and
his involvement with getting the National Corvette Museum
off the drawing board and helping make it a reality.
Just as any working relationship we did not always agree
but we always talked it out and met on middle ground.
Dan, thank you for your contribution to the Corvette
Community. Karen, and Family, my thoughts and prayers
are with you.

Team ZR-1 sadly has to admit we not
only lost a friend, but also a teammate. Dan not only
understood we the Corvette owner but also supported
us in our goals of enjoying the car and the friendships
that came from being part of the family. No matter what
left hooks were thrown at him he always was a gentleman
and showed that he was a true leader for all of us.
I've known Dan since 1995 and he always was a hoot to
talk to via it be the telephone or by e-mail. No matter
who you were he would take the time to stop what he
was doing and listen to what we had to say. To me the
NCM came from Dan's love of the Corvette and now Dan
is forever part of it's history. He'll be greatly missed

Dan always had a smile and a twinkle
in his eye that made you wonder what he'd be up to...I'll
never forget Dan for his antics over the years. For
example, at Mtn Melee - who can forget the time he was
handcuffed to the large rock out by the west wing and
the waitresses spraying him with whipped cream? I can
hear his distinctive laugh right now. Karen, I'll never
forget Dan's WONDERFUL sense of humor, his competitive
spirit (especially during those road rallys!), his love
for Corvettes and his generosity. He left a great gift
to us all with the creation of the museum, and even
though we haven't been able to make it there yet, we
know when we do go, we'll be able to feel his presence.
Dan, may you rest in peace, we love you and the wonderful
memories we have of you will always be with us. Love,

Although it has been too many years
since we've attended a Corvette meet, it has always
been comforting to know that Dan Gale was out there
making the Corvette world a special place to be. We
were deeply, deeply saddened to hear that Dan is gone,
and we send our deepest sympathies to Karen, their family
and all his friends. So many of our Corvette memories
have Dan at their heart, and we will never think of
Martha's Vineyard without remembering Dan's fun, enthusiasm,
love and laughter. We always respected Dan's knowledge
of everything Corvette, and often relied on his wit
and wisdom when we were publishing Keepin' Track. He
may not have created the Corvette, but he personally
captured its spirit and preserved its heritage for generations
of enthusiasts to come. He will be greatly missed. Shelli

How can you pay tribute to a man
who did what I could only dream of? I remember Dan as
a deeply enthusiastic man, who dedicated his life to
make a dream come true for a lot of us in the Corvette
hobby. He lived and breathed the NCM dream for a long
time, and saw it built. He did what needed to be done
to make it happen. He made many friends, and without
his strong opinions and self determination, it would
never of happened. I would be proud to be on his long
list of respected friends. Dan walked the walk. May
you and your family and friends find eternal peace.

Our heartfelt sympathies go out to
Karen and to Heather, Darrin, Peter, Chris and Robby.
Dan was truely a unique individual who gave so much
to so many. We consider ourselves most fortunate to
have personally known Dan. After hearing so many stories
about the antics of Dan at various Corvette gatherings
it was most rewarding to finally make contact with such
a hilarious individual. Dan gave all of us a real appreciation
for life. We were amazed at the success Dan achieved
in his efforts to establish the National Corvette Museum.
There are many who have gone before Dan, and their names
are known to many. Their images are in the museums and
the books, but Dan will hold an even greater place in
our memories. Dan was an integral part of all of us
in the Corvette community. Dan will live on in our hearts
as one of the true legends. To Karen and Dan's family:
Thank You for sharing Dan with all of us for these many
years. There will always be warm memories of Dan. His
contributions were many and they were remarkable. To
Dan: Thank You for being such a special person to so
many people. We are most honored to be able to have
been your friends. Thank you for all you have given
to all of us. God Speed, Dan. There are no radar traps

Occasionally we meet someone who
is instantly liked without us really knowing why. Dan
was that kind of person. I never really knew Dan that
well, but when we ran into each other at NCRS National
Meets, Bloomington or NCM there was this instant feeling
you were rekindling an old friendship. There are numerous
structures in our country that exist due to the vision
and efforts of an individual, even though their name
appears nowhere on the facade. To his many friends and

I guess everyone has a favorite Dan
Gale story. He was one of a kind. I cannot forget the
first time I met him. Tim Thorpe had just completed
a two-year restoration of Dick’s L-88 and brought
the car to us in Bloomington. We were at Dale Smith’s
Friday night party and the car was sitting under a cover
in the corner. Dan and Corvette Mike began bidding against
each other trying to persuade Dick to sell the car before
it was even judged. The money was getting really serious
and Dan realized that I was becoming upset. He thought
it was because Dick was rejecting the offers. Heck no,
I was afraid Dick would sell the car and I had not even
seen the completed restoration. Later Dan and Karen
became our good friends and Dan would call to talk to
Dick. They always kidded each other about their very
different accents—Boston vs. Appalachian Mountain
English. Dan would ask how Dick was and then how the
“wahfe” was. Dan was trying to pronounce
“wife” without his Bostonian “i”
but with a Southern drawl, as if he could! Karen, our
thoughts and prayers have been with you and the family
during these trying days and they will continue in days
to come. We all know Dan is in a better place, but we
and the hobby will miss the guy. We loved him and we
love you.

My last memory of Danny was from
Seacoast Vettes Mt. Melee just a month ago. It was during
the Saturday night party. My wife Arlene & I were dancing
and I noticed that Danny & Karen were up on the dance
floor too. I turned to say something to Danny and the
next thing I know, he is "Belly Bumping" to the music
with me. Within seconds, a line formed behind Danny
and another formed behind me and this continued until
the end of the song. A good friend of ours took a picture
of this that I will cherish forever. The Corvette family
has lost a VERY SPECIAL member!!!!!!

Thanks, Dan, for being a friend for
22 years. Thanks for this great place called the National
Corvette Museum. Thanks for your tireless work making
the contacts for Sandy to get her Corvettes Conquer
Cancer Tour on the road. Thanks for your support, encouragement
and the laughter that you brought her as her health
declined, and for your eloquent words at her memorial
service. I know that you and Sandy (with Zora and Larry)
are gearing up for one heckofa Corvette Party when the
rest of us get there. Save us a seat. We won't have
to look for you - we'll just listen for the laughter!
But what color are the jackets? Thanks, Dan, for the
all the fun, and all the memories... Ben Labaree Corvettes
Conquer Cancer Tour in memory of Sandy Labaree

Dan was one of the most enthusiastic,
intelligent, entertaining, exasperating people I've
ever known. You either loved or hated his plain-spoken
style. Dan would say he didn't care one way or the other.
But I suspect he really did. It goes without saying
that there would be no National Corvette Museum today
had it not been for him. He turned a nice idea into
a genuine crusade. The NCM was his baby. It became his
life. It stayed that way to the end. A couple of months,
Chip Miller was introducing several celebrities at Corvettes
of Carlisle. He ordered us to hold our applause. He
got to Dan. "This is the founder of the National Corvette
Museum", he said. The place erupted.

Dan Gale was a tireless worker during
the fledgling stages of the National Corvette Museum.
Dan's personal efforts to influence General Motors and
procure creative sponsorship to support the museum effort
were impressive to behold. Dan clearly had a heartfelt
passion for the Corvette brand. His personal efforts
to preserve and enhance the nameplate aura and honor
set him apart from any other enthusiasts that I have
known. My personal condolences go out to Dan's family.
Surely, he will be missed.

This weekend I will say my final
goodbyes to a man who was a cherished friend. He was
intelligent, sincere, sentimental and so unbelievably
funny. There was also an incredibly sweet side to him,
too. If you didn't know Dan personally, then I feel
sorry for you. I've known the Gale family for over 25
years and cannot imagine the Corvette world and especially
my world without Dan. In addition to his extraordinary
work building the NCM, he was also instumental in the
development of the New England Corvette Council. His
guidance and visions will be sorely missed, not to mention
his love and friendship. I refuse to remember Dan as
I've seen him since that horrible day. I will remember
him as he proudly gave me a personal guided tour of
the NCM whenever I visited. I'll remember him driving
his red Corvette with his hair flying in the wind and
that smile on his face. I'll remember him in Carlisle,
at the Corvette Shows, chasing me on a road rally (and
sending me the wrong way on purpose!) and telling me
jokes with that laugh of his. He was the only guy I
knew who could say something totally off the wall and
keep a straight face while he waited for my reaction.
I would finally spot the corners of his mouth curling
up and then we would both crack up laughing. I'll never
forget my last conversation with him as he called me
to give me a "Yingah" on September 17th. This is how
I'll remember Dan. He will be alive in my heart forever.
