More than just a driving school, the NCM Road America Driving Event will feature driving instruction with an added twist as we celebrate Corvette Racing heritage. Spectators as well as drivers are invited to this first of many enlarged format Driving Events.

Imagine watching the #3 and #4 C6.R Corvettes racing in an ALMS race and 2 days later driving that same track in your car. Now think of doing that in 14 turns on 4 miles of high speed pavement with 176 feet of elevation change! Road America is one of those tracks that can tell you if you have really learned how to handle your car. As a beginning student it gives you the widest range of experiences to fully ground the student in the car-control process. Located in the historic Elkhart Lake area and intimately tied to Corvette racing, the NCM Road America HPDE continues in the tradition of past events presenting new venues and new experiences to our DE participants.

The school is scheduled for Monday and Tuesday, August 11 th – 12 th, 2008. As our participants have steadily increased in numbers and skill levels have increased, we are moving to a more defined set of run groups. We will have 5 run groups starting with Beginners with no experience and extending to Novice (some experience), Intermediate, Advanced and Instructor groups with room for a total of 140 students (not counting instructors). As always there will be extensive support for those less experienced drivers as well as advanced instruction for the seasoned participants. Students must drive either a coupe or fixed top Corvette; convertibles, with or without a clip on hardtop are only permitted if they have an SCCA roll cage. The price will be $495 for members and $545 for non-members. Non-members will receive a one-year NCM individual membership with their payment. There is no charge for instructors and they will receive a shirt and track time. All students in the beginner, novice and intermediate level will have classroom instruction and will be accompanied by an instructor in their car while on track. Advanced students will be checked out for possible solo status.

As an added treat on this event, we will be hosting a number of vintage Corvette race drivers as well as former C5-R driver Andy Pilgrim. We expect to have several vintage race cars as well and there will be chances to ride with some of those classic race drivers. As we get confirmations of attendance we’ll be sending out the news. If you wish to be a spectator and see what a DE is about, sign up for a ride with an instructor or attend some of the seminars, you don’t have to pre-register just register on-site.

Tech and check in will be at the HQ hotel on Sunday, 2-5 pm. A brief but mandatory Drivers’ meeting will be held at 5:00 pm along with a meet & greet for students and instructors. There will be minimal time for handling registration and tech on Monday so late arrival can significantly delay your track time. Mandatory downloadable drivers’ classification forms and packages with details on tech preparation, event schedule, hotels, routes and maps and other necessary information are available at the bottom of this page.Immediately after registration fill out and return the classification form. We strongly recommend that registrants download and read the Drivers Package when the classification is downloaded. It is especially important to read the technical requirements on helmets and restraints. If you have questions on your equipment please contact us promptly; arriving at the event with incorrect or unacceptable equipment will keep you from participating and there will be no refunds. All registrants will be placed on a RDAM listserv for us to send information and event updates.

On Monday evening there will be a supper at the track and is $30 per person, not included in the cost of registration. Please select the dinner for you and if you are bringing a guest you will be able to register for them as well (they cannot order a shirt). If you are an instructor please register using the website as well. Select Instructor run group and your shirt size. Instructors will receive lunch coupons for both days and if you want to attend the banquet check that as well. If you are bringing a guest follow the same instructions as students above. Final instructor status will be determined by Eventmaster and Chief Instructor.

This year VIR sold out in 25 minutes! Don’t hesitate on this event or you may find it closed out, as everyone wants to drive on Road America! Make sure when you do register that you select your proper run group and shirt size. If you are not sure of your experience level, select the lowest one that fits your skills, we will be adjusting placements closer in to the event but we must have some idea of your experience to begin with. Hotel information is listed in the Classification downloadable form below.
